Measure Length
Measure the longest side of the equipment, including handles, brackets, connectors, mounted parts, feet, or any permanent attachments that increase the required space.
Shipping Case Guide
The right shipping case size depends on the equipment dimensions, the amount of protective material needed, and how the contents will be loaded, removed, stored, and transported.
Use this guide to measure your equipment correctly, compare inside dimensions, avoid tight fits, and choose a shipping case with enough usable interior space.
Measurement Basics
Measure the actual equipment first. Then decide how much room is needed for foam, dividers, cables, paperwork, accessories, and safe handling.
Measure the longest side of the equipment, including handles, brackets, connectors, mounted parts, feet, or any permanent attachments that increase the required space.
Measure the widest side of the equipment. If the item is irregularly shaped, measure across the widest point instead of only the main body.
Measure the tallest point, including raised components, knobs, antennas, feet, handles, lenses, plugs, or protective covers that will remain attached during transport.
Inside Fit
A shipping case should not simply match the equipment dimensions. It should provide usable space for the equipment and the protection around it.
If the equipment needs foam, add clearance on all sides. Tight interior dimensions may prevent enough foam from surrounding and cushioning the item properly.
Chargers, cables, adapters, paperwork, tools, batteries, samples, or removable components may need dedicated interior space so they do not damage the main equipment.
Equipment should be easy to place into the case and remove without scraping, forcing, or compressing sensitive parts against the case walls.
Avoid Mistakes
Many sizing issues happen because the case is chosen too tightly, accessories are forgotten, or outside dimensions are confused with inside dimensions.
Outside dimensions do not tell you how much usable space is inside the case. Always compare your item to interior dimensions.
Cables, chargers, adapters, tools, parts, and documentation can take up more room than expected and should be planned before choosing the case.
If the equipment needs cushioning, the case must allow enough space around the item for foam or padded interior protection.
A case that fits may still be difficult to move once loaded. Consider total weight and whether wheels or handles are needed.
